ConnectUPS SNMP Adapter (End of Life)

Using the ConnectUPS™ Adapter for communication with UPS on Ethernet or Token Ring networks running OnliNet® or other SNMP- compatible network management software, you can quickly determine if there is a power-related problem anywhere on the network. This virtually eliminates costly downtime due to unexpected power outages or surges, and reduces day-to-day network management annoyances such as spontaneous rebooting, lost files and corrupted data that can result from inconsistent power. The ConnectUPS Adapter allows the monitoring of UPSs without having to run power management software on a server and it allows the monitoring of network devices, such as hubs and routers, where power management software is not an option.


  • Integrates easily with software: OnliNet or SNMP network management software (e.g., NetView for AIX, HP OpenView, SunNet Manager, Novell NetWare Management System)
  • Connects directly to the UPSs serial port
  • Supports the Powerware PowerMIB and the UPS standard MIB (RFC 1628)
  • Is configurable over the network from a remote location using BOOTP
  • Has a second serial port that allows local configuration even if the adapter is connected to a UPS
  • Notifies SNMP network management software of power conditions through SNMP traps
  • Supports Token Ring and twisted pair and thin wire Ethernet network connections
  • Is compatible with the Eaton 9155 and Eaton 9315. ConnectUPS purchased after May 28, 1997 also are compatible with Powerware 5119, Powerware 9 Prestige and the Powerware 9150.

Network Managers can use the ConnectUPS Adapter for communication with UPS in networks where SNMP-based network management software has been installed. Network Managers just load the PowerMIB, the Standard MIB or both MIBs and that allows each UPS on the network to be controlled and monitored through the ConnectUPS. Network Managers can perform basic SNMP functions such as gets to determine specific power information, battery capacity or output load and sets for implementing advanced network functions, such as "test battery", or "turn UPS off". The ConnectUPS Adapter will also communicate power conditions through SNMP traps, such as "UPS on battery" or "utility power restored".

The ConnectUPS is only needed when connecting a UPS directly to the network. Therefore, there is no need for it in a standalone (one UPS/one computer) situation. If you need SNMP traps, there are two ways to do this:

  • The first is using OnliNet v3.1 (no ConnectUPS necessary)
  • The second is by using a ConnectUPS with a UPS directly connected to the network.

When using OnliNet v3.0 a ConnectUPS is necessary to generate traps.
